Human Environments: A Cross-Cultural Encyclopedia
|
From School Library Journal
Grade 10 Up?These quality books present informative, comprehensive examinations of two important aspects of human society. Levinson's title contains broad-based articles that illustrate the complex relationship that exists among climate, weather, land forms, and plants and humankind's sociological and spiritual environment. The alphabetically arranged entries stress traditional, non-Western cultures. Western societies are more apparent in Strouthes's title. Each entry examines how law and politics function in different cultures. Extensive examples illustrate the concepts. Articles in both volumes conclude with cross-references and bibliographies. Although somewhat scholarly, the books are readable and interesting and would be useful in sociology, anthropology, and science curriculums. Black-and-white photographs complement the texts.?Judy R.
